The Founding
The choir was formed in 1989 when the then President of the School of Economics, Staffan Burenstam-Linder, wanted to sing at the doctoral promotion. A group of students rehearsed the song De Brevitate Vitae. This group then continued to sing together and shortly later were commissioned to perform two songs at lunch after the traditional Nobel lecture by this year's Nobel laureate in economics. All said and done - the students practiced two songs, one When you wish upon a star (it was Christmas time after all) and the other a self-written song. The President had not expected this, but the students happily sang along, and the proof that Professor Friedman appreciated this element of studentism came with a letter in the mail. After Milton Friedman returned to the United States, he wrote a letter to the choir thanking them for the entertainment. The name of the newly formed choir was given after this success, Friedmans Apostlar, the Student Choir of the Stockholm School of Economics.
“The look on Staffan Burenstam-Linder was unforgettable; he was putting the coffee down his throat when we started the song with the lines “Milton Friedman, Milton Friedman...”. ”
Brevet från Professor Milton Friedman som tack för den egenskrivna sången som framfördes.
